Tribal Development Department

Major objective of the state government was focussed to protect the scheduled tribes from exploitation on social, economic and educational fronts. Simultaneously it was aimed to uplift the families residing below poverty line by financial support. Presently the total population of Uttar Pradesh is 19, 98,12,341 including 11,34,273 scheduled tribes which constitutes 0.56 percent of total population as per census of 2011. Government of India has listed out some caste groups in some districts as scheduled tribes, whose district wise deion is given below:

Description of the schemes operated by Tribal Development Department

Scholarship scheme has been made fully computerized in order to make it punctual and transparent. Manual has been published in 2012-13 with the objective to make the scholarship scheme transparent, following which government has issued amendments/GOs from time to time. Based on these instructions issued by government, scholarship for class 9th, 10 and post matric are being transferred directly in the bank accounts of concerned students by e-transfer through PFMS software.

Students of class 9th and 10th from scheduled tribes, annual income of whose parents is upto Rs. 2.50 lakh, are given with the scholarship.

Students of scheduled tribes studying in post matric classes are facilitated with financial help. Those students whose parent's yearly income is upto Rs. 2, 50,000/- , a facility has been managed to allow the payment of scholarship and fee reimbursement.

09 government Ashram pattern schools for scheduled tribes are being operated in the state with the objective of educational development and providing better education, free meals, boarding, uniforms and study materials for growth of boys/girls of scheduled tribes. Among above said 09 schools, 03 are being operated for girls and 06 for boys. All these schools have been upgraded till class 12th. Out of these schools, 04 have been recognized from CBSE.

In the Government Ashram Pattern Schools Balapur, Vishunpur Vishram district Balrampur, Sirsiya Shravasti, Bichiya Bahraaich, Noutanvaa Mahrajganj, Belaparsua Khiri and Chandan Chowki, additional class rooms are being constructed. In the all the above mentioned schools Generators, Smart Classes Water Purifier/Water Cooler and Computer labs have been established.

With the objective of developing educational status of boys/girls of tribes, central government is ensuring complete financial aid scheme is effective under which free lodging, boarding, uniform and study material is being made available to the students from class 6 to class 12 in the Eklawya Model Boarding Schools in districts Lakhimpur Khiri and Bahraaich. Such schools are under construction in district Sonbhadra and Lalitpur.

Under the provisions made vide scheduled caste and tribes prevention of atrocities Act, 1989 and PCR Act, government of India provides minimum financial assistance of Rs. 85,000/- to a maximum of Rs. 8, 25,000/- according to the official manual available on the subject, to the personnel/families of scheduled tribes affected with atrocity.

Under the provisions of Uniform and Bicycle Scheme, those girl students are covered who don't study under Government Ashram System schools or in any boarding schools, but study in other schools. There is a provision to grant uniform and bicycle to those girl students as encouragement for studies.

Under this scheme, Rs. 20,000/- are provided as marriage grant for the daughters of poor people belonging to scheduled tribes group.

With the objective of providing free boarding education to the students of scheduled tribes, hostel having capacity of 50 students is being operated in the district Balrampur and Bargadva Mahrajganj.
