Major functions and role of Tribal Development Department are as under:-

• To assess the commercial life style of tribal people who are living below poverty line, design and implement various beneficiary programs for their financial development.
• To enhance the social, economic and educational level of scheduled tribes.
• To execute the human resources development related schemes and generate the employment opportunities for scheduled tribes.
• To uplift the scheduled tribes from poverty line and to link them with social and economic main stream of the society.
• To give protection to the tribes from economic, social and educational exploitation.
• Reforms at the level of education and scholarship for enhancing the literacy rate, conduction of Jay Prakash Sarvoday Vidyalay and hostels, Technical education, skilled craftsmanship, inclusion of training programs for skill development and implementation of various programs for increasing the opportunities for self-employment
